Our Story
Since 1997, Universal Thin Film Lab Corp. (UTFL) has been dedicated to manufacturing the highest-quality thin film coatings for the photonics industry. Our team of experts is passionate about delivering the highest quality and service to the photonics industry.
Our state-of-the-art 7,500-square-foot laboratory is equipped with the latest automated technology. It features 4 top-of-the-line coating chambers dedicated to specific types of precision optical coatings, allowing for fast turnarounds, high performance, and constant innovation.
As a part of the photonic community for over 25 years, we've been honored to witness and contribute to the astounding progress made in this industry. We look forward to continuing to support and innovate for the photonics industry for the next 25 years and beyond.

2022 Press Release
Local veteran-owned company recognized for hiring Veterans, e.g., Universal Thin Film Lab Corp., to receive HIREVets.gov Medallion Award.
Universal Thin Film Lab Corp. is a recipient of the 2022 National HIRE Vets Medallion Award. HIRE Vets Award recognizes companies for their concentrated efforts in recruiting and employing Veterans. The awarding body for the HIRE Vets Medallion Awarded is Veterans’ Employment and Training Service, US Department of Labor.
According to the conferring body, Universal Thin Film Lab Corp. will join a list of exclusive companies that have demonstrated a deep commitment to hiring and training veterans. The HIRE Vets Medallion Award is the only federal award recognizing exceptional achievement in veteran employment nationally. By meeting the criteria required for a Gold Medallion Award, Universal Thin Film Lab Corporation demonstrated both patriotism and recognition of the values veterans bring to the workplace.
CEO Carmelo Comito said that he is honored by the recognition. “As a military veteran, I understand the issues that military service members face when transitioning to civilian life. Universal Thin Film Lab Corp. (UTFL) certifies that Thin Film Coatings supplied by UTFL follow and conform to the European Union's Restriction of Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS) Directive 2002/95/EC and 2011/65/EU (RoHS2).
Said products have no intentional addition of:
• Lead (Pb)
• Cadmium (Cd)
• Mercury (Hg)
• Hexavalent Chromium (Cr)
• Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBB)
• Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDE)
• Bis Phthalate (DEHP)
• Butyl Benzyl Phthalate (BBP)
• Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP)
• Diisobutyl Phthalate (DIBP)
Any trace impurities of these substances are below the threshold limits as specified by the RoHS directive; specifically, Cr+6, Hg, Pb, PBB, PBDE, DEHP, BBP, DEP, DIBP do not exceed 1000 ppm (0.1%), and Cd does not exceed 100 ppm (0.01%). This declaration is based on our analysis, vendor-supplied analysis, material certifications, or laboratory tests of the component materials used in manufacturing our products. Universal Thin Film Lab Corporation believes to the best of its knowledge that the above statements are accurate as of the date of this certification and the statements and certifications of suppliers or service providers that the Company may have relied upon in the preparation of this statement. Therefore, within the above-defined limitations, this certificate may be relied upon by the distributors and customers of RoHS-designated products of Universal Thin Film Lab Corp.
